Two operations have been carried out on the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Three infiltrators are likely to have been killed in these operations on Thursday. In this entire incident, one terrorist is likely to have been killed in Tangdhar area, while the other two are likely to have been killed in Machhal district.
According to the Indian Army, the army launched two operations in the Machhal and Tangdhar sectors on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. Regarding this, the army wrote in a post on X, “Based on intelligence about the possibility of infiltration, a joint anti-infiltration operation was launched by #Indian Army and @JmuKmrPolice in the general area of Tangdhar, Kupwara on the night of 28-29 August 24. One terrorist is likely to have been killed. The operation is ongoing.”
It said, “At Machil, it said based on intelligence inputs regarding possible infiltration attempts, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Machil, Kupwara area on the night of 28-29 Aug 24.”
Two militants are likely to have been killed in Machal as security forces opened fire after noticing suspicious movement amid bad weather, officials said. The infiltration attempts are coming at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is set to go to polls and nominations for the first phase have already been filed. According to the Election Commission of India, the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will be held in three phases: September 18, September 25 and October 1. The results will be declared on October 4.
Meanwhile, the search operation launched on Wednesday night after an encounter between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district is also continuing. The operation was launched at 9:30 pm in the general area of village Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal area. “During the search operation, contact was established with the militants at around 11:45 pm on August 28 and firing took place between militants and security forces near Kheri Mohra area,” police said.
