A Delhi court on Monday granted interim bail till December 7 to Abhishek Gupta, CEO of RAU’s IAS Study Circle, and coordinator Deshpal Singh in the case of the death of three civil services aspirants due to waterlogging in the basement of the coaching institute. Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna granted the relief to the accused on a personal bond of Rs one lakh each and two sureties of the like amount. Directing Gupta to deposit Rs 2.5 crore with the Red Cross Society by November 30, the judge said that as per the lease agreement of the premises, the accused, being the lessee and CEO of the institute, would alone be responsible for any claim for damages and loss caused to any person or material.

The judge said Gupta and Singh were the CEO and coordinator of Rau’s IAS Study Circle respectively and had control over its affairs. CBI registers case against Delhi coaching centre ownerEarlier last month, the CBI had taken over the probe into the death of three civil services aspirants at a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar and registered an FIR against the institute’s owner. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the case from the Delhi Police following a Delhi High Court order. The central agency has re-registered the case against Abhishek Gupta, owner of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, as per prescribed procedure.

Shreya Yadav (25) from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana and Navin Delvin (24) from Kerala drowned after water entered the basement of the IAS Study Circle building in Rau following heavy rains on July 27. The IAS aspirants were studying in the basement library when the water got into it and they died.
