Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his stance that there is no alternative to victory in the war against Islamist terror group Hamas.

Israeli forces on Sunday advanced into the Shejaiya neighborhood in northern Gaza and also penetrated deep into western and central Rafah to the south, killing at least six Palestinians and destroying several homes. Residents said Israeli tanks, which withdrew into Shejaiya four days ago, shelled several homes, leaving families trapped inside and unable to leave. Speaking at the weekly cabinet meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his stance that there is no alternative to victory in the war against Islamist militant group Hamas.

He said: “We are committed to fighting until we achieve all our objectives: eliminating Hamas, returning all our hostages, ensuring that Gaza never again poses a threat to Israel, and returning our residents safely to their homes in the south and north.” While the offensive was focused on Gaza, one person was killed and five were wounded in an Israeli attack near the town of Tulkarm in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. The group said the dead man was a member of the militant group Islamic Jihad. The Israeli military did not issue a comment.

Hours after Netanyahu’s comments about Gaza, Hamas’ armed wing released a video showing it manufacturing weapons, in a show of defiance. The Israeli military said forces operating in Shejaiya had killed several Palestinian gunmen over the past day and found military infrastructure inside a UN school, as well as dozens of weapons and “valuable intelligence documents.”
