Suryakumar Yadav’s statement, said- I like to lead, I have learned a lot from different captains

Newly appointed captain of the Indian T20 team Suryakumar Yadav said that he has thoroughly enjoyed leading on the field and has learned a lot while playing under different captains over the years. Rohit Sharma retired from the shortest format after the Indian team became the world champion.

After this, Surya Kumar was made the captain in his place. He was given preference over Hardik Pandya, who was earlier considered a contender for the captaincy of the T20 team. Surya Kumar will make his debut as captain in the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka starting here on Saturday.

The middle-order batsman told BCCI TV, “Even though I was not the captain, I have always enjoyed the role of a leader on the field. I have always learned a lot from different captains. It is a good feeling and a big responsibility.” The Indian T20 team will start a new era in the presence of new captain Surya Kumar and new head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Suryakumar has played under Gambhir’s leadership in the Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2014 and both of them have a very good relationship. Suryakumar said, “This relationship is very special because I have played under his leadership for KKR in 2014. It was special because that’s where I got opportunities. Our relationship is still strong.”

He said, “He (Gambhir) knows how I work and what my mindset is when I come to the practice session. I also know how he tries to work as a coach. It’s all connected to the lovely relationship between us and I am extremely excited to see how it progresses.”

Suryakumar said that as a captain he wants to remain humble because he sees cricket as just a game and not as a life. The Mumbai batsman said, “The most important thing I have learned from this game is how humble you remain even after achieving something or not performing well. I have learned that whatever you do on the field, you should leave it there.”

He said, “It is not your life, it is a part of your life. It is important to maintain balance in life. If you are a good person, everything is good.
