The history of archery is linked to the discovery of human civilization; it has suffered an Olympic exile for 52 years

Archery, played in the Olympic Games, is a game that is thousands of years old. As a progress of a culture, this game is considered like the discovery of fire and the invention of the wheel. This game is also linked to ancient human civilization. This game played with bow and arrow was first included in the Olympics in 1900. After which this game was also played in the Olympic Games held in 1904, 1908 and 1920. But after staying away from the Olympics for 52 years, it returned again in the 1972 Olympics.

Talking about the rules of this game, different rules have been made for different events. In which it is also clarified that what type of bow can be used. Target archery is also seen in the Olympics along with recurve bow. The players participating in this event aim at the target placed at a distance of 70 meters. Where each player tries to win the set point. Under which, two points are required to win a set. Whereas one point is required to tie a set. Whichever player scores 6 set points first is declared the winner.

Other types of this sport also include competitions such as field archery, indoor archery and para archery. Other bows can also be used in the sport, including a compound bow or bare bow. In this sport, India is hopeful of a medal from the entire team including Dheeraj Bommadevara. Because India has already secured its place in the quarter-finals of this competition which started a day before the Olympics.
