The Hindu community in Pakistan, especially those living in the northwestern city of Peshawar and the southern city of Karachi, celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan with enthusiasm. A Hindu senator of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) tied a rakhi to the party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Shopkeepers sold rakhis as well as other items used in worship.

Peshawar/Karachi: The Hindu community in Pakistan, especially those living in the northwestern city of Peshawar and the southern city of Karachi, celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan with enthusiasm. A Hindu senator of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) tied a rakhi to party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival on Monday, temporary shops were opened on the premises of several temples in the city to sell rakhis of different colours and designs. The shopkeepers sold rakhis as well as other items used in puja.

PPP Senator from Tharparkar Sindh Krishna Kumari tied a rakhi to party chairman Bilawal. Sharing a video of her tying a rakhi to the PPP leader, Kumari wrote in a post on ‘X’, “Happy Rakshabandhan. Thank you Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.” Kumari also tagged Bilawal’s sisters Asifa Zardari and Bakhtawar B Zardari in the post. The festival was celebrated amid tight security in Peshawar.

In view of the festival, a large number of police forces were deployed around temples in the city and cantonment areas. A large number of Hindu women and girls gathered in a temple located in the city’s Jhanda Bazaar for worship in the morning and then preparations were made for Aarti. After participating in religious rituals, women tied Rakhi to their brothers. According to Lahore-based TV channel ‘Bolda Punjab’, the festival was also celebrated at the old Krishna temple in Lahore.
