Port Blair. An Air India plane landed successfully at Port Blair airport at night. This information was given in an official statement. Air India’s Airbus A321 aircraft with 68 passengers landed at INS Utkarsh on Friday evening. INS Utkarsh is under the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) and is located in the premises of Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair.

A statement issued by the Andaman and Nicobar Command said, the aircraft departed from Kolkata at around 5.40 pm and landed successfully in Port Blair at 7.34 pm. The aircraft proceeded towards Veer Savarkar International Terminal to disembark the passengers. The statement said, this successful landing at night is an important step towards increasing air connectivity to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, benefiting the islanders and promoting tourism. This historic event has been possible due to the continuous efforts of the Indian Navy, Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) and Airports Authority of India (AAI) over the last few years.

To accommodate the projected increase in tourist inflow, AAL has updated the ‘Instrument Landing System’ (ILS) at Veer Savarkar International Airport to CAT-I, the statement said. A senior Andaman and Nicobar Command official said, “Utkarsh airfield is fully capable of handling both day and night operations. Apart from its strategic importance, these developments are an important step towards improving regional connectivity and strengthening the Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme.” He urged private airline operators to make maximum use of the night landing and takeoff facility at Port Blair airport.
