Bharti Airtel, chip maker MediaTek and smartphone maker Nokia have managed to achieve upload speeds of 300 megabits per second (Mbps) on 5G networks during trials that involved joint use of a set of mid-band spectrum using the latest generation chipsets.
New Delhi. Telecom company Bharti Airtel, chip maker MediaTek and smartphone company Nokia have succeeded in achieving an upload speed of 300 megabits per second (Mbps) on 5G networks during tests. This information was given in a joint statement on Monday. The test was conducted in Airtel’s tech lab with the intention of maximizing uplink performance and an uplink speed of 300 Mbps was achieved, setting a new benchmark in 5G network performance.
During the test, the upload speed was increased by combining the frequency bands of 3.5 GHz and 2.1 GHz. MediaTek’s 5G mobile platform Dimension and Nokia’s 5G AirScale radio equipment were used in this. Bharti Airtel Chief Technology Officer Randeep Sekhon said, “This test will greatly enhance the uplink performance of the network, which will provide faster data speeds and better connectivity.”
Ho-Chi Hwang, General Manager, Wireless Communication Systems and Partnerships, MediaTek, said, “We are thrilled to collaborate on this unprecedented test in India. Our platform has played a key role in achieving maximum speed on Airtel’s network.” Tarun Chhabra, Country Manager and Head of Mobile Networks Business, Nokia India, said that this test will pave the way for better 5G networks.
