Prayagraj. The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday gave time to the Muslim side to file its reply in the case of a petition requesting survey of the Vajukhana of Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi and fixed the next hearing on October 22. Earlier, in compliance with the order passed on September 24, the plaintiff’s counsel filed a supplementary affidavit whereby the application of one of the plaintiffs, Lakshmi Devi, was placed on record. Lakshmi Devi has filed this application with a request to conduct a scientific survey of the protected area and the matter is pending in the Supreme Court.

Justice Rohit Ranjan Aggarwal passed this order while hearing the revision petition filed by Rakhi Singh, one of the litigants in the Shringaar Gauri Puja case, in the Varanasi court. This revision petition has been filed challenging the order dated October 21, 2023 of the District Judge of Varanasi in which the judge had refused to direct the Archaeological Survey of India (SI) to survey the Vajukhana area (except the alleged Shivalinga) in the Gyanvapi Mosque. Had done.

Rakhi Singh, in her revision petition, argued that survey of the Vajukhana area is necessary in the interest of justice as it will help the court in arriving at the decision. The lawyer for the Hindu side argues that it is necessary to get the Vajukhana surveyed by ASI to determine the religious character of the entire property. This survey is possible using non-invasive methods as per the directions of the Supreme Court. The ASI has already conducted a survey of the Gyanvapi complex in Varanasi and submitted its report to the District Judge of Varanasi. ASI had conducted the survey as per the order of Varanasi District Judge dated July 21, 2023.
