Mumbai: Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) president Prakash Ambedkar has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, urging him to set up a separate ministry for nomadic tribes to improve their conditions. Ambedkar shared the letter on social media platform X on Tuesday. “Many nomadic tribes and tribal communities in Maharashtra are facing problems due to various circumstances. These communities are still struggling to get proof of citizenship from the government as well as food, clothing and shelter,” he said.
The former MP said, to improve the condition of both the communities, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde should consider setting up a separate ministry to look after the needs of nomadic tribes and tribal communities, which should focus on preparing proper documentation of the people of these communities. Ambedkar said in the letter that the state government should establish Vasantrao Naik Research and Training Institute on the lines of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI), Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Research, Training and Human Development Institute (SARTHI) and Mahajyoti for the benefit of nomadic and tribal people of Maharashtra. He also demanded implementation of the suggestions of Ashok Agarwal Committee.
