Addressing the Indian community in Geneva on September 13, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar evaded a question posed by some foreign diplomats based in New Delhi about his country’s personal meetings with some opposition leaders. “I have no problem if people make comments about our politics, but then, I think, in all fairness, they should also be prepared to hear my comments about their politics,” Jaishankar said.

Even though diplomats from the US, UK and China consider themselves more equal than others, it will be interesting to see the reaction of the Biden-Harris administration if Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump in New York during his visit to the US over the weekend. Trump has claimed that PM Modi is coming to meet him in New York.
After the Modi government held up the mirror to Iranian religious leaders for their totally inappropriate comments on the treatment of minorities in India, it is quite clear that India will retaliate against any mischievous jibes or indirect propaganda directed at the country through the media. India believes in a level playing field at the diplomatic level.
