The long-running Israel Hezbollah conflict has taken a new turn after the serial page blasts. Using a new method, Israel injured about 3 thousand Hezbollah fighters and about 11 died. Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon is also among the injured. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement that neither he had any information about this attack nor was the US involved in it. However, quoting an American official, it has been claimed that Israel had informed the Joe Biden administration about the Lebanon pager blasts a few hours after the operation ended.
The US State Department initially said it had no prior information about the attack, while it denied any involvement in the incident. The Iran-backed terror group has blamed Israel’s spy agency Mossad for the deadly blasts. The government led by Benjamin Netanyahu has so far maintained silence. A report quoted a Hezbollah official as saying that new brands of ‘handheld pagers’ used by the group first overheated and then exploded. The official said at least two of its members were killed and others injured.
The US, Israel’s closest ally, has urged Iran not to escalate tensions. Speaking at a press conference, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller was more cautious, saying the US would continue to press for a diplomatic solution. Our overall policy remains the same, that is we want to see a diplomatic solution to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
