Another star shines from the land of Haryana, Manu Bhakar is ready to wave the tricolor in Paris

Young shooter Manu Bhaker from Haryana has succeeded in qualifying for the Paris Olympic Games. Manu Bhaker became India’s shooting star through ranking at a young age. Born in Jhajjar, Haryana, Manu Bhaker participated in tennis, skating and boxing competitions during her school days. Apart from this, she also participated in a martial art called ‘Than Ta’, winning medals at the national level. Bhaker has been shooting for the last 7 years. She has been a part of the Olympics 2020. Manu won the gold medal in the 10 meter air pistol event by participating in the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the age of just 16.

21-year-old Manu Bhaker is a resident of Goriya village in Jhajjar, Haryana. Her father Ram Kishan Bhaker works in the Merchant Navy. Before shooting, Manu has tried herself in Karate, Thang Ta, Tanta, skating, swimming and tennis. Manu is a national medalist in Karate, Thang Ta and Tanta. She is a 3-time national champion in Tanta. She won a state medal in skating. She played swimming and tennis in school. One day Manu was roaming in the shooting range with her father. Suddenly Manu started shooting. She hit the target number 10 right in the middle. Seeing this, her father encouraged Manu to shoot. National coach Yashpal Rana taught Manu the tricks of shooting, as a result of which today Olympian Manu Bhaker is showing her talent to the world.

Manu Bhaker has been shooting for the last 7 years. She has been a part of the Olympics 2020. At the age of just 16, Manu participated in the 2018 Commonwealth Games and won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol event. Manu won 2 gold medals in the 2018 ISSF World Cup. She is the youngest Indian woman player to do so. Shooter Manu Bhaker’s way of practicing is quite different. Manu practices shooting while listening to music. Before playing at the national level, Manu won her first medal in shooting in a competition in Mahendragarh in 2016. After this, she won the gold medal in the junior and youth competition in the Kumar Surendra Singh competition. She won the gold medal in the Syed Wajid Ali competition.

After Tokyo 2020, Manu Bhaker became the junior world champion in women’s 10m air pistol in Lima and has since won medals consistently in the junior circuit, however, the Indian shooter has failed to live up to her potential in senior competitions since 2021. Manu Bhaker won silver in women’s 25m pistol at the 2022 Cairo World Championships and gold in the same event at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. But her only individual senior win came in women’s 25m pistol at the Bhopal leg of the 2023 ISSF World Cup Series. She won a bronze medal in this competition. However, the young shooter finished fifth in the women’s 25m pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championships 2023 in Changwon and has secured a Paris 2024 Olympic quota for India.
