Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Friday met Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and discussed a range of issues, including ways to bring peace in the northeastern state. Expressing appreciation for the Army chief’s visit, Singh said in a post on Twitter: “I deeply appreciate General Dwivedi’s visit to Manipur. We discussed important issues related to the current situation in our state. We reaffirmed cooperation between the state government and security forces in responding effectively to the challenges we are facing and maintaining peace and harmony in the state.”
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Gen Dwivedi, who is on a two-day visit to Manipur, was accompanied by Lt Gen RC Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, Officer Commanding 3 Corps, and Major General Ravrup Singh, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South). This is Gen Dwivedi’s first visit to the state since taking over as the 30th COAS from Gen Manoj Pandey on June 30. He is also expected to meet senior ground commanders of the Army and leaders of other security agencies in the state.
