Arvinder Singh Lovely joins BJP, had resigned from the post of Delhi Congress President a few days ago

YEARS

Arvinder Singh Lovely joined BJP along with four former Congress leaders in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The four others who have joined the party include former Congress MLAs who recently left the party – Rajkumar Chauhan, Neeraj Basoya, Naseeb Singh – and Delhi Youth Congress chief Amit Malik.

Days after resigning as Delhi Congress president in protest against the party’s alliance with India block partner AAP and the selection of party candidates, Arvinder Singh Lovely on Saturday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He joined the BJP along with four former Congress leaders in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The four others who have joined the party include former Congress MLAs who recently left the party – Rajkumar Chauhan, Neeraj Basoya, Naseeb Singh – and Delhi Youth Congress chief Amit Malik.

Earlier Lovely had clarified that he had only left the party post and not the party, although the Congress leadership as well as a section of AAP leaders believed that he would re-join the BJP. Lovely’s resignation on 28 April was a blow to the party in terms of outlook and perception. The resignation of Lovely, who has been leading the Delhi unit since August last year, four days after former Delhi minister Rajkumar Chauhan quit the party, is a blow to the Congress’s efforts for the May 25 elections in Delhi.
