Indian diplomats met Yunus
Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma met Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, and reiterated India’s commitment to work with Bangladesh to meet the shared aspirations of the people of the two countries for peace, security and development. The interim government led by Yunus was set up a few days after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5 following unprecedented student-led protests against the controversial quota system in government jobs. “HC Pranay Verma today held an introductory meeting with Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the Government of Bangladesh,” the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said in a post on X.
Several cases registered against Sheikh Hasina and her aides
At least five more murder cases were filed against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her former cabinet colleagues and top police officials, taking the number of cases against her to 49. Of the five cases, three were filed in Dhaka, while two each were filed in Narsingdi and Bogura, the Daily Star newspaper reported. Awami League president Hasina has so far been charged with at least 49 cases, including 40 of murder, seven of crimes against humanity and genocide, one of kidnapping and one of attacking a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) procession.
