Attempt to keep DK Shivkumar under control! Demand for three more deputy CMs raised in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah’s statement comes

A section within the Congress believes that the statements of the ministers demanding three more deputy chief ministers are part of the (special) plan of the Siddaramaiah camp and its aim is to keep Shivakumar in check. There is talk that Shivakumar may demand the post of chief minister after the government completes two and a half years of its tenure.

Amid renewed demand for three more deputy chief ministers in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today said the decision of the Congress high command is final. Some ministers are advocating for giving the post of deputy chief minister to leaders from Veerashaiva-Lingayat, SC/ST and minority communities. At present, DK Shivakumar is the only deputy chief minister from the Vokkaliga community in the Siddaramaiah cabinet. “Whatever the high command decides is final,” Siddaramaiah told reporters in response to a question.

Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna, Housing Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan, Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi and some other leaders, who are considered close to Siddaramaiah, had once again demanded three more deputy chief ministers earlier this week.

After the results of the assembly elections in May last year, in view of the fierce competition between Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah for the post of Chief Minister, the Congress had decided that Shivakumar would be the “only” Deputy Chief Minister. Expressing displeasure over the demands of the ministers, Shivakumar said on Tuesday that the party would give a befitting reply to it. Shivakumar is also the president of the state unit of Congress.
