Badoni broke the record for most sixes in a T20 innings, Arya hit six sixes in an over

Ayush Badoni (165) set a new record for a T20 innings with 19 sixes while Priyansh Arya (120) smashed six sixes in an over as South Delhi Superstars made 308 for five against North Delhi Strikers in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) on Saturday. This is the second-highest score in a T20 match.

Indian Under-19 team player Arya hit six sixes in the 12th over of South Delhi’s innings but Badoni batted more aggressively than him. Badoni, who plays for Lucknow Supergiants in the Indian Premier League, hit 19 sixes which is a new record in T20 cricket. This right-handed batsman also hit eight fours in his 55-ball innings.

Earlier, the record for hitting the most sixes in an innings of a T20 match was jointly held by West Indies’ Chris Gayle and Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan. Both batsmen had hit an equal number of 18 sixes. Gayle had hit 18 sixes with five fours in his 69-ball 146-run innings for Rangpur Riders against Dhaka Dynamites in the 2017 season of the Bangladesh Premier League, while Indian-origin Chauhan had hit 18 sixes during his 41-ball 144-run innings for Estonia against Cyprus in a T20 International in June this year.

Left-handed batsman Arya completed his century in just 40 balls. He hit 10 sixes and as many sixes in his 50-ball innings. During this, he hit six sixes in Manan Bhardwaj’s over. Badoni and Arya set a new record in T20 cricket by sharing 286 runs for the second wicket. Earlier this record was in the name of Japan’s opening pair of Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake and Kendall Kadowaki-Fleming, who had added 258 runs for the first wicket against China in February this year.

South Delhi made 308 for five, just six runs less than the 314 for three made by Nepal in 20 overs against Mongolia in the 2023 Asian Games men’s competition.
