ban on declaration of recruitment results in haryana ec action after congress complaint

YEARS

Ramesh has alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct in the recruitment process for 5600 posts of constables in Haryana Police, 76 posts of TGT and PTI by Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and various posts by Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC).

The Election Commission on Wednesday stayed the release of results of the ongoing recruitment process in Haryana till the completion of assembly elections in the state. This step has been taken after a complaint by Congress MP Jairam Ramesh. Ramesh has alleged violation of the model code of conduct in the recruitment process for 5600 constable posts in Haryana Police, 76 posts of TGT and PTI by Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and various posts by Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC).

The Commission has sought a detailed report from the State Government. After verifying the facts from the Government, the Commission found that there was no violation in the ongoing recruitment process by the HSSC and the SPSC as per the existing MCC directions. The Commission has found that the recruitment process was initiated before the announcement of election dates, hence it was within the existing MCC directions. It found that the statutory authorities can continue their work. However, in order to maintain a level playing field and to ensure that no undue advantage is gained, the Commission has directed that the results of these recruitments by the concerned authorities (HSSC and HPSC) will not be declared until the Assembly elections in the State are over.

Haryana will go to polls on October 1 and the results will be declared by October 4. The state is currently governed by the BJP and Nayab Singh Saini is its chief minister. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 40 seats in the 90-seat assembly. Unable to cross the majority mark of 46, it formed a post-poll alliance with the Jannayak Janata Party, which had won 10 seats, and independents. The alliance lasted only till March 2024, but the BJP remained in power after a trust vote.
