A 14-year-old minor girl was crushed to death by a speeding truck during the Baravafat procession in Ramnagar town of Barabanki district, resulting in her death. The Superintendent of Police suspended four policemen after negligence came to light in the case. Police gave this information on Tuesday.
According to the police, a Baravafat procession was being taken out in Ramnagar town on Monday night, when Ishtiaq’s daughter, 14-year-old Saba, who had gone to watch it, was crushed by a speeding truck near the turn leading to the tehsil.
The girl was taken to CHC Ramnagar, where doctors declared her dead. Police said that after this incident the villagers created a ruckus near Ramnagar police station.
Angered by the road accident, people of a particular community protested on Tuesday by blocking the road in front of the police station, accusing the police of negligence. Police said that area police officer Jagat Ram Kanojia, who reached the spot after receiving the information, convinced the people and got the protest ended.
An official said that Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Singh has suspended outpost in-charge Dharmendra Singh Rathore and three constables Jai Chandra, Om Prakash, Dinesh Pal on charges of negligence.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said that after receiving information about the matter, all the protesting people were pacified and investigation is being done. He said that immediately after the accident, the police took possession of the truck and arrested the driver. The body of the girl has been sent to the district hospital for postmortem.
