BCCI announces cash rewards for IPL groundsmen and curators

New Delhi. Describing them as ‘unsung heroes’, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Monday announced that groundsmen and curators at all 10 regular IPL venues will be given Rs 25 lakh each as appreciation for providing ‘great pitches’ during the league. IPL 2024 concluded in Chennai on Sunday with Kolkata Knight Riders winning their third title with an eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.

“The unsung heroes of our successful T20 season are the groundsmen who worked tirelessly to provide excellent pitches even in difficult weather conditions,” Shah wrote on Twitter. “As a token of our appreciation, the groundsmen and curators at the 10 regular IPL venues will receive Rs 25 lakh and the three additional venues will receive Rs 10 lakh. Thank you for your dedication and hard work,” he wrote. The 10 regular IPL venues are Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Jaipur. This year the additional venues were Guwahati, Visakhapatnam and Dharamsala.

Guwahati was the second home venue of Rajasthan Royals while Visakhapatnam hosted the first leg of Delhi Capitals’ home matches. Dharamsala serves as the second home ground for Kings XI Punjab. This year’s IPL has been in the news for high-scoring matches in which the record for the highest team score was broken twice. The 250-run mark was crossed eight times this season. Shah also congratulated the Knight Riders for winning the title. He wrote, “Congratulations to Kolkata Knight Riders for winning the 2024 Tata IPL. The team showed great consistency throughout the tournament and congratulations to Shreyas Iyer for leading the team brilliantly.
