Khagaria. Re-polling is going on on Friday at two booths of Khagaria Lok Sabha seat in Bihar. During this period, security arrangements have been tightened. An officer gave this information. He said that voting started at 7 in the morning at booth numbers 182 and 183 in Beldaur assembly constituency of Khagaria parliamentary constituency and will continue till 6 in the evening. Voting was disrupted at these booths on May 7 due to damage to the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), due to which re-polling has been ordered. Voting was completed on Tuesday for five Lok Sabha seats of Bihar including Khagaria.

There is a direct contest between Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Marxist Communist Party (CPI-M) on Khagaria seat. A senior official of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office said that on the day of voting on May 7, a group of people attacked two booths and damaged EVMs. Among the five seats in Bihar where voting took place on Tuesday in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections, Khagaria has the least number of voters at 18.40 lakh and 58.20 percent voting took place in this constituency. Voting was largely peaceful in Khagaria, Araria, Jhanjharpur, Supaul and Madhepura.

An average turnout of 60 percent was recorded, which is about one percent less than the 2019 elections. These five seats are currently held by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Outgoing MP from Khagaria, Mehboob Ali Qaiser was not given ticket this time. Kaiser has won this seat twice in a row on the ticket of late Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). Ram Vilas Paswan’s son Chirag Paswan has fielded Rajesh Verma from this seat, due to which Kaiser joined Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
