Politics has intensified regarding smart electricity meters in Bihar. Rashtriya Janata Dal and Tejashwi Yadav are aggressive on Nitish government. Tejashwi Yadav is continuously calling smart electricity meters as cheaters and has announced that he and his party will conduct a statewide movement against smart meters in the state from October 1st. In his ex-post, Tejashwi wrote that smart cheaters have been installed in Bihar, not smart meters. Rashtriya Janata Dal will protest from October 1 against irregularities in smart meters and rising electricity bills.

On this announcement of Tejashwi, BJP and the state government have attacked him. On Tejashwi Yadav’s tweet, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary said that it is natural. When 17% less bill is being received in his (Tejashwi Yadav) state president’s house, then proof should be given and not where is the problem. He said that this is clearly a matter of the electricity department. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed the Electricity Department to immediately cooperate with the public if there is any problem anywhere.

At the same time, Minister Mangal Pandey said that apart from tweeting, what do they do?… They have nothing to do with Bihar, they do not understand the issues of Bihar. They (RJD) people get irritated by the name of development…when there is development in any area, they find it lacking. He said that when the Government of India gave Rs 60,00 crore in the budget for Bihar, how enraged those people were. Whenever any development work is seen happening or the government seems to be becoming popular, their job becomes to protest and sitting in some room somewhere, they (Tejashwi Yadav) tweet.

Earlier, on the second day of his Karyakarta Samvad Yatra in Samastipur, Tejashwi Yadav promised to provide 200 units of free electricity to consumers if voted to power in the 2025 assembly elections. He said that if our government is formed, we will provide 200 units of electricity free of cost. Despite the double engine government and decades of BJP/NDA rule, the most expensive electricity in the country is available in Bihar. The people of Bihar are suffering from expensive electricity bills and smart meter malfunctions.
