New Delhi. Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh said that he is looking forward to the two-match bilateral series against Germany as he feels that the matches to be held on October 23 and 24 will give his team a chance to test itself and it will help revive the spirit of the game among the people of the National Capital Region. Both these matches will be played at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium. This will mark the return of men’s international hockey to the National Capital Region after a decade. Earlier, Hockey World League matches were last played here in 2014.
“This series is not just limited to two teams playing each other. It will help revive the spirit of hockey in Delhi. We hope that this series will inspire young players from the region to take up the sport,” Harmanpreet said in a Hockey India press release.
He said, “Playing in front of home fans in Delhi after so many years is really special for us as a team. There is a lot of history and memories associated with the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium and it will be a great honor to lead the team here.” Harmanpreet said that after winning the title in the Asian Champions Trophy in China earlier this month, this series will give the team another chance to test itself. The Indian captain said, “Germany is one of the top teams in world hockey and playing against them will be a big challenge for us. This series is very important for us as we have to play in many major tournaments ahead.” He said, “We are working hard and this series will give us a chance to test ourselves against a very strong opponent.
