A big decision of the Supreme Court has come out in the Bilkis Bano case. The Supreme Court rejected the petition of the Gujarat government, which had requested to review the decision in view of some comments made against the state. It is noteworthy that on January 8, the apex court had canceled the Gujarat government’s August 2022 decision to grant immunity to 11 convicts sentenced to life imprisonment for the gang rape of Bilkis Bano and murder of her family members.

In its plea, the state government claimed several errors in the records. The State Government also argued that the remarks by the Gujarat Government of working in connivance and collusion with the accused caused serious prejudice to it. The petition questioned the Court’s observation that the Gujarat Government was guilty of “abuse of power” and “abuse of discretion” for following the previous order of this Court.
