Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Sunday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is doing politics in the case of alleged rape and murder of a female trainee doctor in a Kolkata hospital and the way it (BJP) is raising the issue is wrong. The postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and later murdered on August 9 at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, after which massive protests are taking place across the country.

The BJP has demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in connection with this incident. When asked about this demand of the BJP, Kamal Nath told reporters, “This is politics. It is clear that rape has happened. Strict action should be taken. The way the BJP is raising this issue is wrong.”

When asked about reports of inclusion of things related to top Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) figures in the syllabus in Madhya Pradesh, the former chief minister of the state said that it is not possible to change history. In response to a question related to the Waqf Amendment Bill, Kamal Nath said that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) will discuss it.
