The former MP further said that this is not a commission, it is the office of TMC. The State Women’s Commission should not talk about UP, Bihar or Manipur. First they should talk about West Bengal.

Protests are continuing in Bengal over the Kolkata case. BJP leaders including Locket Chatterjee and Agnimitra Paul had reached to ‘lock’ the State Women’s Commission for its alleged ‘inaction’ in crimes against women. BJP leader Locket Chatterjee said that the Women’s Commission is not doing any work. The West Bengal government tampered with the evidence. Why did they not inform the National Women’s Commission about this?

The former MP further said that this is not a commission, it is the office of TMC. The State Women’s Commission should not speak about UP, Bihar or Manipur. First they should speak about West Bengal. BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul said that the overall women leadership of BJP has put a symbolic lock here (on the West Bengal Women’s Commission office) today because the Women’s Commission of West Bengal does not do any work. They are getting salaries and facilities from our tax money but today these people do not raise their voice against the atrocities being committed on the women of Bengal every day, they only flatter the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, reiterating her request for stringent central laws and provision of harsh punishment for heinous crimes like rape and murder. Banerjee had written a letter to Modi a few days ago on this issue after nationwide outrage over the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. Mamata demanded mandatory provision for timely disposal of rape and murder cases.

Banerjee on Wednesday said her government has a “zero tolerance” policy towards rape incidents and a bill will be passed in the state assembly next week to amend existing laws dealing with these cases to ensure death penalty for rape offenders. Banerjee wrote in the letter that she has not yet received a response from the Prime Minister on the issue raised by her but she has received a letter from the Union Minister for Women and Child Development. Banerjee said the Women and Child Development Minister’s letter “barely reflects the gravity of the issue” raised by her.
