A controversy has erupted over the Maharashtra government’s ‘Ladli Behen Yojana’ after a controversial statement by BJP MLA Tekchand Savarkar alleging that the scheme was launched to garner votes in the upcoming state assembly elections, likely to be held later this year. Underprivileged women aged between 21 and 65 will be given Rs 1,500 every month under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Behen Yojana, introduced in the state budget in late June.
