The Central Election Commission has announced assembly elections in Haryana almost a month ago. The election for the 90-seat assembly has been announced almost a month before the term of Naib Saini’s government ends on November 3 this year. When the BJP handed over the command to OBC leader Naib Singh Saini in place of Manohar Lal Khattar just before the Lok Sabha elections, Naib Saini’s appointment was seen as an attempt to woo the backward class votes, but he did not succeed in the difficult task of retaining 10 Lok Sabha seats. But still he has managed to reduce the massive anti-incumbency wave against his political mentor Khattar.
The Karnal assembly constituency of this state is very special. This seat falls in the Karnal district of the state. This is the seat from where Nayab Singh Saini became the Chief Minister of Haryana. He won the by-election from this seat and became the Chief Minister in place of Manohar Lal Khattar. This seat has always been a hot seat. Before Nayab Singh Saini, Manohar Lal Khattar has become the Chief Minister by winning from the Karnal assembly seat. In the 2019 assembly elections, Karnal assembly seat was won by Manohar Lal Khattar.
He contested against Tarlochan Singh of Congress. Manohar Lal Khattar defeated Tarlochan Singh by 45188 votes. In the 2019 assembly elections, Manohar Lal Khattar got a total of 79906 votes, while Tarlochan Singh of Congress stood second with 34718 votes. Apart from this, Tej Bahadur of JJP stood third here with 3192 votes. On March 3 this year, Manohar Lal Khattar resigned from the post of CM. After that, Nayab Singh contested the Karnal assembly by-election in his place. When the result of the by-election held on May 25 came, Nayab Singh Saini won the election by 41483 votes.
