Police said the Shiv Sena leader’s son Mihir Shah (24) was allegedly driving a BMW car which hit a two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Worli area on Sunday morning, killing bike rider Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and injuring her husband Pradeep. Shah’s driver Rajarshi Bidawat is also an accused in the case.

Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Monday sent Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah to 14-day judicial custody in the BMW ‘hit-and-run’ case. His son, who was reportedly driving the car at the time of the accident, is absconding. The Shiv Sena leader’s son Mihir Shah (24) was allegedly driving the BMW car which hit a two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Worli area on Sunday morning, killing biker Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and injuring her husband Pradeep, police said. Shah’s driver Rajarshi Bidawat is also an accused in the case.

He was remanded to police custody till Tuesday by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Sewari court) SP Bhosale. The car is owned by Rajesh Shah and Bidawat was with Mihir in the car at the time of the accident. Both were arrested on Sunday for helping Mihir escape after the accident and were produced in court on Monday. Police have booked the three under several charges. However, the court took note of the fact that Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) does not apply to Rajesh Shah.

Shah is a leader of the ruling Shiv Sena in Palghar district. The court sent him to 14-day judicial custody and his driver to one-day police custody. Mihir is still absconding and the police have formed six teams to arrest him. A Look Out Circular (LOC) has also been issued to prevent Mihir from fleeing abroad. Kaveri Nakhwa was travelling on a two-wheeler with her husband Pradeep on Annie Besant Road around 5.30 am on Sunday when the driver of a BMW car lost control and hit them.
