London: Britain has launched a major campaign urging all expatriates across the country, including Indians, to opt for e-visas instead of using immigration documents. Those using physical Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) or Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs) will be moved to a fully online system by next year as part of plans to completely digitise Britain’s border and immigration systems. Most BRPs will expire by the end of this year. They are being moved to the online system in phases.
Seema Malhotra, Minister for Migration and Citizenship in the UK Home Ministry, said, “People who have immigration documents are urged to take immediate steps to adopt e-Visa and I want to assure those who need advice and assistance that all facilities will be provided to them. The Home Ministry said, “E-Visa is free and very simple to adopt. It provides more convenience to customers, is affordable and provides security to the UK border and immigration system. E-Visa cannot be lost, stolen or tampered with. Adoption of this system will not change, affect or reduce the existing rights or immigration status of the consumer.
