A new case has been registered against ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 58 others for allegedly attempting to murder a student during last month’s violent clashes, according to a media report. This is the latest in a series of cases filed against the country’s former prime minister (76). Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post and fled to India amid student-led protests demanding reform of the reservation system in government jobs in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s English newspaper Daily Star reported that the case was filed by Fahim Faizal (22). Fahim claimed that he was injured when bullets were fired at him during a protest against the government in Dinajpur on August 4, a day before the collapse of the Hasina-led Awami League government. The report said that after the case filed by Fahim, the number of cases filed against Hasina so far has reached 155.
Which includes 136 cases of murder, seven of crimes against humanity and genocide, three of kidnapping, eight of attempted murder and one case of attack on Bangladesh Nationalist Party procession. According to the statement recorded under the case, the protesters were attacked with firearms and weapons due to which Fahim suffered several injuries. 59 people including Hasina, former whip Iqbalur Rahim and Dinajpur Sadar Upazila president Imdad Sarkar have been made accused in this case.
