Brussels. Two-time Olympic medallist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra revealed that he participated in the Diamond League season finals despite a hand injury during a training session. Chopra came very close to winning the Diamond League title on Saturday but missed it by a centimetre and finished second with a throw of 87.86m for the second consecutive year. Chopra (26) said on his social media handle, “I was injured during practice on Monday and the ‘X-ray’ revealed that I have a fracture in the (fourth metacarpal) bone of my left hand. It was another painful challenge for me. But with the help of my team, I managed to participate in Brussels. ”
He said, “This was the last tournament of the year. I could not live up to my own expectations. But I think this was a season in which I learned a lot. Now I am fully fit and ready to return and play. ” Chopra was struggling with fitness this season and is expected to visit a doctor to cure the ‘groin’ injury which affected him throughout the season.
Now he has suffered a new hand injury and he did not elaborate much about it. After winning a historic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, he ended the season on a great note by adding a silver at the Paris Games. Talking about the season, he said, “The 2024 season is over so I look back at all the things I learned throughout the year, including improvements, failures, mindset and much more. I want to thank you all for your encouragement. 2024 has made me a better athlete and human being. See you in 2025.
