West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a law to curb rape incidents. This came just weeks after the body of a 31-year-old associate professor who was allegedly raped and murdered inside a visiting hall of the state-run RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s chief advisor Alapan Bandyopadhyay said that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to PM Modi. He has written- Respected Prime Minister, I want to bring to your attention the regular and increasing incidents of rape.
Cases are reported across the country and in many cases rape is accompanied by murder, it is appalling to see that about 90 rape cases are reported daily across the country which shakes the confidence and conscience of the society and the nation, it is the utmost duty of all of us to end this so that women feel safe, such a serious and sensitive issue needs to be addressed in a comprehensive manner through stringent central legislation providing exemplary punishment against the persons involved in such brutal crimes. The establishment of fast-track special courts for speedy trial in such cases should also be considered in the proposed law so that the trial in such cases can be completed within 15 days.
