Amid renewed violence in parts of Manipur, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government has extended the ban on mobile internet services in five districts till September 20. The affected districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching. However, Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s government relaxed curfew in four districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal for a few hours in the morning. An order from the state home department confirmed the extension of the ban which began on September 10 and was scheduled to last for five days.

N Biren Singh said today that I appreciate the actions of Assam Rifles, who arrested a Burmese citizen. As a Chief Minister, I have been continuously claiming from the beginning that the current crisis in Manipur is due to outsiders, foreign hand. But some people believe, some do not. He said that I appreciate Assam Rifles, who arrested foreign citizens with evidence of supply of weapons to the militants active in Manipur.

Suspected militants attacked the residence of Manipur minister Kashim Vashum in Ukhrul district with a grenade, causing heavy damage to his property, police said on Monday. No one was injured in the incident that took place on Saturday night, a senior official said. Vashum said he and his family members were not at home when the grenade exploded. The police official said the grenade blast damaged walls and some portions of the minister’s house.
