The party directed all regional and local organizations to hold vigorous but peaceful demonstrations at district headquarters after Friday prayers, and stressed a unified stand against any government attempt to ‘change’ the Constitution.

The political committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced that nationwide protests would be called for on Friday in response to both the proposed constitutional amendments and the imprisonment of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. The party directed all regional and local organizations to hold vigorous but peaceful demonstrations at district headquarters after Friday prayers and stressed a unified stand against any government attempt to ‘change’ the Constitution.

Meher Bano Qureshi, daughter of PTI vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was detained in a related incident, tweeted that her sister-in-law, wife of MNA Zain Qureshi, was forcefully taken away near her house by masked men in plain clothes and multiple vehicles. He said that despite facing various threats in the last one and a half year, they have remained resilient against such covert tactics, Dawn News reported. PTI Punjab Chapter Chairman Hammad Azhar condemned the alleged abduction of Zain Qureshi’s wife by the fascist regime and called on citizens to hold protests across the country after Friday prayers. In a video message he urged, “It is time to save this country and restore the rule of law and the Constitution. No Pakistani should stay at home after Friday prayers.

Earlier, the leadership of Imran Khan’s party had announced plans to hold a protest on October 15 to express concerns regarding political grievances, which has led to tension between the party and law enforcement agencies. However, as Dawn reports, they called off the planned protest at D-Chowk on Monday night ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
