The Delhi government on Sunday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of all those who drowned after heavy rains on June 28. Let us tell you, there was record rainfall in Delhi on Friday, due to which the lower parts of the national capital were waterlogged and 11 people lost their lives. Apart from this, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in Delhi till July 2.

Minister Atishi directed ACS Revenue to identify those who lost their lives in collaboration with regional hospitals and Delhi Police and provide them immediate compensation on behalf of GNCTD. In a post on social media platform X, Atishi wrote, ‘Many deaths have occurred after excessive rain of 228 mm in 24 hours on June 28. The families of those who have lost their lives will be given a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh. Instructions have been given that this compensation should reach the affected families soon.’

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Sunday visited areas affected by heavy rains and inspected the drainage systems. According to the India Meteorological Department, the monsoon hit the national capital on Friday and it received its first rain. According to the department, Safdarjung recorded a heavy rainfall of 153.7 mm in three hours between 2.30 am and 5.30 am.
