Development of Jharkhand and tribals is BJP’s priority: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Ranchi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma arrived in Ranchi on Saturday to attend a meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. He said that the development of Jharkhand and the welfare of tribal people is the priority of the BJP. Sharma, the election co-in-charge of the BJP, will meet party leaders to discuss the party’s strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in the state. He said, “The party’s priority is the development of Jharkhand and the welfare of the Scheduled Tribe community here. There is no government in the state for the last five years. In the last five years, atrocities on women and tribals have increased manifold in the state.

Sharma said that when the BJP’s manifesto comes out, it will be known how much the party has planned to work for the tribal people in the next five years. When asked about former Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren getting bail, Sharma said, “The BJP does not keep track of who is going to jail and who is coming out on bail.”

When asked about the impact of Soren’s presence on BJP in the upcoming elections, Sharma said that when he was in jail, BJP won nine seats in the state in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. Sharma said that BJP will win more seats after Soren comes out of jail. Soren was released on Friday after the high court granted him bail in a money laundering case. The court said that Soren is not prima facie guilty and there is no possibility of the petitioner committing any crime after being released on bail.

Out of the 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand, 28 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribe community. In the 2019 assembly elections, the JMM-led alliance won 26 tribal seats. Sharma and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a series of meetings with party leaders, MPs, MLAs and workers on June 23 to prepare a blueprint for the assembly elections to be held later this year. Chouhan has been appointed as the BJP’s election in-charge for Jharkhand.
