DP Manu suspected of doping, Paris Olympics hopes may be dashed, he has left Neeraj Chopra behind

Last month, Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in javelin throw at the Athletics Federation Cup. There was a time during this event when DP Manu had overtaken Neeraj. Manu managed to win the silver medal in this event with a throw of 82.06 meters. Manu was expected to participate in the Paris Olympics but now it seems difficult. Manu is under the scanner of doping and if he is found guilty, he is sure to be banned.

DP Manu was to participate in the Inter-State Championship being held in Panchkula. But on the instructions of the National Anti-Doping Agency, the Athletics Federation of India barred Manu from participating in this competition. He was in the initial entry list for the National Inter-State Championship which started on Thursday. But his name was removed from the list released later.

Manu was about to qualify for Paris Olympics

Let us tell you that, the Olympic qualification of this 24-year-old player, who won the silver medal in the Asian Championship 2023, was almost certain through the world ranking quota. Manu was ranked 15th in the World Athletics Road to Paris Ranking. 32 players get a chance in the javelin throw event in the Paris Olympics. In such a situation, Manu would have qualified in terms of ranking and the country would have got a chance to see three players in this event.

AFI president Adil Sumariwalla told PTI that NADA has asked the federation to bar Manu from competitions but he did not confirm whether the athlete has committed a doping offence. “There might be something like that, but we don’t know the actual reason right now,” Sumariwalla said.
