Educational institutions reopened in Bangladesh after remaining closed for a month

All educational institutions in Bangladesh, including universities, secondary schools and colleges, reopened on Sunday after they were closed more than a month ago following violence during student-led protests.

The protests forced Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and leave the country. Educational institutions in Bangladesh were closed indefinitely on July 17 to ensure the safety of students after violence broke out during a recent agitation demanding reform of the job reservation system.

The Ministry of Education had on Thursday issued instructions to open all the institutions under its jurisdiction. All educational institutions were opened on Sunday after remaining closed for a month.

According to Bengali news channel Samay TV, a notification was issued on August 15 by Deputy Secretary Mosammat Rahima Akhtar, stating, “Following the instructions of Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, all educational institutions have been asked to take necessary steps to resume teaching activities from August 18.”

According to the ‘Daily Star’ report, school students were seen heading towards their institutions in uniforms in the morning, many of whom were accompanied by their parents. Due to the opening of educational institutions, many places in Dhaka city were jam packed with vehicles. The weekly working days in Bangladesh are from Sunday to Thursday.
