There is an announcement at the railway stations of Indian Railways that the railway is your property. However, this does not mean that the train is actually someone’s property and someone has a right over it. But there is only one person in the country who owns a train. Usually the owners of the railways are Indian Railways and the Government of India. But in the country, one person owns a train.
This person became the owner of the train only a few years ago. Let us tell you that this person has not done any fraud to become the owner of the train, rather he has become the owner of the train legally. This is such a feat that even Ambani or Adani could not do, but the common citizen of India has this power. Actually, a farmer became the owner of the entire train. He has the ownership of an entire train, which no one else in the country has.
For information, let us tell you that this person is Sampooran Singh who is a resident of Katana village in Ludhiana, Punjab. He is basically a simple farmer. Due to a mistake of the railways, he got the ownership of the train. This incident is of the year 2017. Sampooran Singh got the ownership of the Swarn Shatabdi Express train going from Delhi to Amritsar.
According to the information, during the construction of Ludhiana Chandigarh railway line in 2009, the railway had bought the land of the farmers. During that time, Sampooran Singh’s land also came in the middle of the railway line. The railway had acquired this land at the rate of Rs 25 lakh per acre. During this, the matter became complicated when Sampooran Singh got the information that the railway had bought the same size of land in the neighboring village at the rate of Rs 71 lakh per acre.
Sampooran Singh approached the Supreme Court against this double standard of the railways. After the hearing, the court reprimanded the railways and increased the compensation amount to 50 lakhs. Later it was increased to 1.47 crores. The court ordered the Northern Railway to pay this amount to Sampooran Singh by the year 2015. However, the railways paid only 42 lakh rupees. The railways did not pay 1.05 crore rupees.
The railways could not pay the compensation amount even after the court’s order. After this, in the year 2017, District and Sessions Court Judge Jaspal Verma ordered the confiscation of the train at Ludhiana station. The station master’s office was also ordered to be confiscated. After the court’s order, the victim Sampooran Singh reached the station and confiscated the Amritsar Swarn Shatabdi Express train parked at the station. In this way, he became the owner of the train. Even today, Sampooran Singh is the only Indian who owns an Indian train. Let us tell you that this matter is still pending in the court.
