Five Indian boxers to practice in Germany ahead of Paris Olympics

Barring Commonwealth Games gold medallist Amit Panghal, the five other Indian boxers who have qualified for the Olympics will attend a month-long training camp in Germany ahead of the Paris Olympics, which will begin on June 28.

In this Five Indian boxers, including world champion Nikhat Zareen (50kg) and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), will practice at the Olympic Centre in Saarbrucken, Germany along with the national teams of Ireland, USA, Mongolia, Germany and Denmark.

Other Indian boxers attending the camp include world championship bronze medallists Nishant Dev (71kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Jasmine Lamboria (57kg). Panghal (51kg), however, will continue his practice with his coaches and national camp support staff at the Sports Authority of India’s Shilaru Centre and will join the rest of the team in France during the Olympics.

Indian Boxing Federation Secretary General Hemant Kumar Kalita said in a release, “Participating in the training camp in Saarbrucken will not only give Indian boxers a chance to play with top players from different countries but it will also help them acclimatize before the Olympics as the conditions in Germany are similar to Paris.” Six Indian boxers have qualified for the Olympics, which includes four women and two men.
