French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Tuesday that about 25,000 policemen will be deployed every day in and around Paris during the Paralympic Games, similar to the security arrangements made during the Olympics. The Paralympics are to be held in the French capital and its surrounding areas from August 28 to September 8. Darmanin reiterated in a press conference that the authorities have not found any ‘concrete’ terrorist threat to the Paralympic Games.
He said that just like the Olympics, during the Paralympics, Israel’s 27 athletes will be provided 24-hour security by elite police officers amid the death of people in Palestine during the war in Gaza and the threat of a wider regional conflict in West Asia. Darmanin said that in addition, 10,000 private security agents will help ensure the safety of players and spectators at the venues. Tony Estaingué, president of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, said that the Paralympics will be held at 19 venues and 4,400 athletes will participate in these games.
