The plant will produce about 4.3 tonnes of green hydrogen per day, with a purity of about 99.999 per cent by volume. It will use electricity generated from renewable sources such as solar energy to produce green hydrogen. GAIL said in a statement that the plant is in line with the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

New Delhi. Public sector company GAIL (India) Limited said that its first green hydrogen plant located at Vijaypur in Madhya Pradesh has become operational. Its capacity is 10 MW. This is an important step towards the entry of the country’s largest natural gas company into the new and alternative energy sector. A 10 MW proton exchange membrane electrolyzer has been imported from Canada for the green hydrogen production unit at the Vijaypur complex.

The plant will produce about 4.3 tonnes of green hydrogen per day, with a purity of about 99.999 per cent by volume. Electricity produced from renewable sources such as solar energy will be used to produce green hydrogen. GAIL said in a statement that this plant is in line with the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Under this mission, the country has set a target of 50 lakh tonnes of annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2030. India is focusing more on hydrogen as an alternative fuel source to meet its growing energy needs as well as reduce its carbon emissions.
