Elections are to be held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir. In which the first phase of voting has been completed on 18 September. Now the second phase of voting is to be held on 25 September. Voting is also to be held in the second phase i.e. on 25 September in Ganderbal, which has become the hottest seat of Jammu and Kashmir. There is a very tough and interesting contest on this seat. Actually, former CM of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah is in the election fray from this seat. However, his path to victory does not seem to be so easy.
History of Ganderbal Assembly Constituency
This seat has been considered the stronghold of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. From 1977 to 2014, National Conference lost the election on this seat only once. In 2002, Qazi Mohammad Afzal of PDP won from Ganderbal assembly seat. Omar Abdullah became the Chief Minister of the state by winning the election from this seat. This time Omar Abdullah is contesting from Ganderbal and Budgam assembly.
