An investigation committee set up by India will visit the United States on October 15 to probe US allegations of involvement of an Indian government official in the foiled plot to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. The committee was established by India to investigate the activities of certain organized criminals and is actively investigating the man, identified in a Justice Department indictment last year as an Indian government employee , who directed a failed plot to assassinate an American citizen in New York. Additionally, India has informed the United States that they are continuing their efforts to investigate other ties to the former government employee and will determine follow-up steps as necessary, the State Department said earlier.
In November last year, US federal prosecutors had accused Indian national Nikhil Gupta of being involved with an Indian government employee in a failed plot to assassinate Pannun in New York. Gupta, arrested in the Czech Republic in June last year, was extradited to the US on June 14.
