Gairsain. Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat fasted here on Wednesday demanding the permanent capital of Uttarakhand and was seen searching for it with a candle in his hand in broad daylight. As per his pre-scheduled program, senior Congress leader Rawat reached here with his colleagues on the first day of the monsoon session of the Assembly and fasted. Later, he took a round with a burning candle in his hand and tried to find the permanent capital of the state.
A large number of people present on the streets with Rawat came out from the martyr’s place shouting slogans in the form of a procession and after circumambulating a part of Gairsain town, returned to the martyr’s place and held a meeting. On this occasion, he asked the question that if Gairsain is the summer capital of Uttarakhand and Dehradun is the temporary capital, then where is the permanent capital of the state. In the year 2020, Gairsain was made the summer capital of the state during the tenure of the then Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. Rawat said that in 2027 Congress will come to power and then Gairsain will be made the permanent capital.
He said that he had earlier made it clear that he would develop infrastructure facilities in Gairsain by 2020 and bring the capital to Gairsain before 2022. He said that but before this, under a conspiracy, ‘we were removed (from power).’ He appealed to the people to make Congress win in the next assembly elections and bring it to power. He assured that the capital would be brought to Gairsain as soon as the Congress government is formed in the state.
