Haryana. Independent MLA Rakesh Daulatabad died of heart attack in Gurugram

Gurugram: Independent MLA from Badshahpur assembly constituency Rakesh Daulatabad died of a heart attack on Saturday morning, police said. After exercising his franchise in the Lok Sabha elections this morning, 45-year-old MLA Rakesh Daulatabad suffered a heart attack at his farm house, following which he was taken to a private hospital, a senior police officer said. According to police, he died during treatment at Manipal Hospital in Palam Vihar here. An officer said that he was cremated with state honours at Swarg Ashram in Daulatabad village in the evening.

Daulatabad had won the 2019 assembly elections as an independent candidate and later supported the BJP government. He had also contested from Badshahpur in 2009 and 2014 but lost. Leaders of various political parties, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, condoled Daulatabad’s demise. During the funeral, DCP (Traffic) Virendra Vij and SDM Manesar Darshan Yadav paid tribute to him and offered floral tributes on behalf of the Haryana government. Haryana Police personnel fired in the air and gave him the last salute. The MLA’s elder son Milind Janghu lit the funeral pyre.

Daulatabad is survived by his father Jile Singh, mother Roshni Devi, wife Kumudni, sons Milind Janghu and Dev Janghu. Expressing grief over Daulatabad’s death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he had created his own identity among the people at a very young age with his hard work and dedication. He wrote on ‘X’, “Extremely saddened by the sudden demise of Haryana MLA Rakesh Daulatabad ji. With his hard work and dedication, he had created a unique identity among the people at a very young age. His demise is a big loss for the state’s politics. May God give strength to his family and supporters in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!”

Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini and former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed grief over the demise of Daulatabad and said that his death has created a void in the state’s politics. Saini posted on the social media platform ‘X’, “Saddened and shocked to hear about the sudden demise of Badshahpur MLA.” The Chief Minister said that the sudden death of Daulatabad has created a void in the state’s politics. Former Chief Minister Khattar also condoled the death of Daulatabad. He posted on ‘X’, “Saddened and shocked to hear about the sudden demise of Badshahpur MLA Shri Rakesh Daulatabad.”

Khattar said the Haryana Assembly has lost a young and energetic member and Daulatabad will always be remembered in the state’s politics. Union Minister and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh also expressed grief over Daulatabad’s demise and said Daulatabad struggled to create new paths for the youth and won as an independent candidate. Rao said he is with the family in this hour of grief.

Congress leaders Bhupendra Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD)’s Abhay Singh Chautala and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP)’s Dushyant Chautala also condoled the death of the MLA. Haryana’s 90-member assembly currently has a total of 88 MLAs due to the vacancy of Karnal and Rania assembly seats. After Daulatabad’s death, the number of members of the assembly has come down to 87.
