Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Bal Poshakt Aahar Yojana’ to provide nutritious food to children in government schools. Launching the initiative in Hamirpur, he said it will complement the existing mid-day meal scheme and aims to provide nutritious food to students from nursery to Class VIII in 15,181 schools. Under the scheme, school children would be provided boiled eggs or fruits once a week.
Sukhu said, “Currently, around 5,34,293 lakh children are benefiting from the mid-day meal scheme. Under the new initiative, they will now get additional nutrition.” He said, “Schools will buy fresh fruits from local markets based on the choice of children.” The state government has allocated an additional Rs 12.75 crore for the scheme in the current financial year. Sukhu further said that about 17,510 primary school teachers will be given ‘tablets’ as part of the government’s efforts to promote digitalisation in educational and administrative processes.
