Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged banned outfit ULFA (I) chief Paresh Barua not to engage in any activity that endangers the future of the state’s youth, saying the state is going to become a ‘powerhouse’ in the next 10 years. Speaking at ‘The Assam Tribune Dialogue 2024’ here, Sarma said planting bombs across the state on August 15 is a matter of “deep concern which can affect the ongoing progress and development in the state.”
He said, “We are moving ahead firmly and with determination. I am sure that if the state remains peaceful, the economy remains stable and the youth remains cooperative and enthusiastic, we will become a ‘powerhouse’ in the Indian scenario in the next 10 years.” He said there is a deep concern about the planting of explosives across the state.
He said, “I appeal to the ULFA (I) chief on this platform not to indulge in any such activity which will endanger the future of the youth of the state.” Police had recovered “bomb-like materials” from at least eight places, including two in Guwahati, after the banned outfit ULFA (I) had claimed to have planted bombs at 24 places to carry out a series of blasts in Assam on Independence Day.
